Give a ‘Thumbs Up’ to the Famous Thumb Area of Michigan’s Mitten
Take the road less traveled to Michigan’s Thumb and you’ll discover a great place! Whether you choose to take a highway or back road, you’ll discover a vast array of scenic byways (by land or water), rolling countryside, natural wildlife, strong cultural heritage and plenty of welcoming, friendly faces!
Summertime is in full swing in the Thumb! Our big, natural pool (a.k.a. Lake Huron/Saginaw Bay) is open for boaters, fishermen, beach lovers and swimmers. The campgrounds are abuzz with travelers cooking their hot dogs and s’mores over a campfire. Golfers are practicing their Tiger Wood swing. And we’ve got festivals going on throughout the area. Check out our calendar of events for complete details.
As you prepare for your visit, we invite you to check out a few of our friends …
Looking for a quaint place to stay, try the Captain’s Quarters Inn in Lexington. This famous bed-n-breakfast (once a vacation home for Michigan Governor Albert E. Sleeper) sits slightly off M-25, but is within walking distance to the beach, marina and shopping district.
Need a cup of java or a specialty Michigan-made gift, stop by The Broken Teapot in Mayville. This unique shop offers a variety of gourmet food and beverage items; as well as one-of-a-kind gift items made by local artisans. Soon you’ll also be able to grab a bite to eat at the Windows 2 the Past Café, which will open for business later this summer.
Now that you’ve rested and got your caffeine fix, it’s off to the lake you go. Just a short drive north and you’ll discover Lindy’s Landing Marina in Quanicassee as the perfect spot to launch your boat. Then you can kick back, relax and enjoy your time on the waterway. But don’t forget your sunscreen!
Though in between here and there, you’ll discover so much more about the Thumb Area than we can share at one time! Travel safely and enjoy your visit.
